Following one years' experience as a patent examiner in the United States Patent Office (1965-1966), Mr. Gallagher served as a patent agent for the Office of Naval Research (1966-1967). He has considerable experience as a patent attorney with the Communications Satellite Corporation (1968-1969), Limbach, Limbach & Sutton (1969-1982), Majestic, Gallagher, Parsons & Siebert (1982-1988), and the present firm (1988-date).
Areas of legal practice include validity and infringement counseling and opinions, patent and trademark licensing, patent litigation support, U.S. and international patent applications and enforcement.
Technical subject areas include electronics and computer technology, particularly audio and video signal processing (analog and digital), image scanning and processing, telecommunications, spread spectrum communications, and radio-frequency propagation and antennas.

Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Mr. Lathrop obtained considerable experience with telecommunications and complex multi-processor computer systems while working as a staff engineer at Bell Telephone Laboratories (1969-1972, 1974-1978), and he obtained experience with IBM mainframe systems and networking while working as management information systems manager for Mervyn's (1978-1987). He has been with the firm since 1988.
